Doris Chia heads the Litigation Department. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators.
With extensive experience in civil and commercial litigation work since 1991, Doris is well regarded by clients for her practical approach to complex legal disputes. Doris has advised on and appeared in the Court of Appeal, the High Court and the Subordinate Courts for a wide variety of disputes, some of which were landmark decisions in Singapore. The cases handled include disputes in relation to contracts, tort (eg defamation and negligence), shareholder and other commercial agreements, minority oppression, scheme of arrangement, companies winding up, hedge funds, financial advisors, fire and other insurance claims, ownership of property, landlord and tenant, employment, MCST/strata title disputes and intellectual property enforcement.
Doris is a contributor to the 2007 edition of the Singapore Civil Procedure, a practice and procedure guide for legal practitioners. She is also the co-author of "Evans on Defamation in Singapore and Malaysia (2008 edition)" and the Editor of "You & The Law" (2011, 4th edition), which is a community book project by the Singapore Association of Women Lawyers to explain the law in layman's language so as to educate the public on their rights and obligations in main areas of law.
